Metabolic Improvement

There is a rare fatty acid called palmitoleic acid which has been shown to improve the body's ability to metabolise fat. While it is often hard to get in your diet, Macadamia Nuts are one of the few food sources that contain it.

High in Omega-3

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid that is usually very low in modern diets. It is commonly supplemented with high-quality fish oil however, Macadamia Nuts are also very high in Omega-3. Including them regularly in your diet can help your body to fight the effects of inflammation.

While macadamias are natively Aussie, they were first commercially-produced at scale in Hawaii. They go by several other names. These include: Bush Nuts, Queensland nuts, Bauple nuts, and Hawaii nuts. They are known for their hard shell which is almost impossible to break without a nut cracker.

Yep, it's true that macadamia nuts are on the more expensive end of the nut range. While several factors play a role, the main reason is that Macadamia trees have a low yield. A low yield means that a small number of nuts can be harvested for the same amount of investment as other nuts. In turn, this means that it is costly to farm and harvest Macadamia nuts.

A few factors contribute to the low yield of macadamia nut harvesting. The trees need to reach maturity before they start producing nuts. That means a wait time of up to 10 years before harvesting! Then, they only produce nuts 5 or 6 times a year. Finally, they are typically harvested by hand. Due to their very hard shell, it is difficult to know which nuts are ripe. This leads to a lot of manual labour and increases the cost.
