Salmiak Rocks
The Nut Market's Dutch Salmiak Rocks are the perfect introduction to salmiak, the flavouring favoured by the Dutch. These short, sweet and slightly salty tubes are an outer layer of Dutch Black licorice filled with a burst of a soft, sweet salmiak cream. They are one of a variety of liquorice flavoured with the ingredient salmiak salt. Salmiak salt gives salty liquorice an astringent taste, akin to that of tannins—a characteristic of red wines, which adds both bitterness and astringency to the flavour. Consuming salted licorice can stimulate either a savoury or non-savoury palate and response.
